VIGHNAHAR
"The Remover of Obstacles. The Victor over Vighnasur."
The Ancient Battle
Defeating the
Demon Vighnasur
The legend states that King Abhinandan performed a sacrifice to become Indra. Indra, threatened by this, created the demon Vighnasur to disrupt all sacrifices. The demon went out of control, creating obstacles for everyone. The Gods prayed to Ganesha, who defeated Vighnasur here. The defeated demon begged for mercy and promised never to trouble Ganesha's devotees, asking that Ganesha be named Vighnahar (Remover of Vighna/Obstacles).
