Retrieving the
Chintamani
The legend narrates how Ganesha retrieved the wish-giving jewel Chintamani from the greedy prince Gana to return it to Sage Kapila. However, the sage chose to gift the jewel back to Ganesha, asking him to stay there forever. Thus, the Lord manifested here as Chintamani - the one who removes all worries (Chinta).

"The Resting Place of Madhavrao Peshwa."
Theur was the family deity of the Peshwas of Pune. Shrimant Madhavrao Peshwa I was a staunch devotee and built the wooden Sabhamandap. He spent his final days in the temple precincts, seeking solace and peace before breathing his last here. The temple stands near the confluence of the Mula-Mutha and Bhima rivers.
